This company was formed in March 2003, with the aim of investing in, setting up, and managing commercial enterprises. The principal activity undertaken so far is the purchase of the Downtown area of Dubailand, now named The City of Arabia, where the company is planning to build the largest shopping mall in the region, the Mall of Arabia; a dinosaur theme park; a 10 km long Wadi Walk with shops and apartments beside a flowing stream; and a number of tower blocks and other residential accommodation, sufficient, when the project is finished, to house a population of around 40,000. This new city will be a magnet for the existing residents of Dubai; tourists will also be able to stay in a 5-star hotel over the entrance to the Mall of Arabia. The City of Arabia, which will include the Mall, a hotel, the dinosaur theme-park and the Wadi Walk, will be opened in 2008.
